Goals and Accomplishments
2011/2012 GOALS
The goals for 2011/2012 are to complete the resurfacing of the running track and secure funding for the Computer Resource Aide (CRA) for the 2012/2013 school year.
2010/2011 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Thanks to the contributions by parents, teachers, staff, and local businesses, the Foundation's main fundraisers (Capital Campaign, Jog-a-thon, and Silent Auction Gala) raised $26,863 during the 2010/2011 school year.
Similar to ALEKS funding for previous years, funding was provided to finish supporting licenses for the CompassLearning software learning tool. CompassLearning is a software company whose system is tied in with NWEA which created and maintains the MAP testing site. The alliance between the two allows educators to move seamlessly between NWEA's precise assessments (MAP) and CompassLearning's rich curriculum, creating a powerful learning experience for all students with access 24 hours a day. Bringing CompassLearning to Canyon View has given differentiated learning experiences to all students because once connected either at home or school, the student will be taken to fun activities custom tailored to their individual needs. All of the additional licenses to fully bring 1st grade on board with CompassLearning were purchased with this funding. These are one-time licenses and will not need to be purchased again.
The Foundation also provided continued funding for a Computer Resource Aide (CRA) in the computer lab. The Computer Resource Aide at Canyon View works directly with the students and their classroom teacher while they are in the computer lab. The CRA supports their educational goals in the lab, assists the teacher and also trouble shoots many minor computer issues at Canyon View. Due to the increased class sizes, the CRA provide invaluable support to students while they are in the computer lab.
Any additional funding remaining at the end of the 2010-2011 school year stays in the our foundation account accruing interest and will be applied toward the needs of the 2011-2012 school year. A future goal that Canyon View is planning toward is resurfacing of the running track.
2009/2010 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Thanks to the contributions by parents, teachers, staff, and local businesses, the Foundation's main fundraisers (Capital Campaign, Jog-a-thon, and Silent Auction) raised $26,282 during the 2009/2010 school year.
Similar to ALEKS funding for previous years, funding was provided to support licenses for the CompassLearning software learning tool. Math program licenses were purchased for all 2nd through 5th grade students and English Language Arts licenses for all students, 1st through 5th grades. These are one-time licenses and will not need to be purchased again.
The Foundation also provided continued funding for an IMPACT teacher supporting students in grades K-3. IMPACT teachers work directly with small groups of students who are in need of more intense instruction in reading and writing. Students are assessed frequently and when skills are mastered, return fulltime to regular instruction. The IMPACT program benefits all students. While students needing reinstruction are pulled from the classroom by an IMPACT teacher, the majority of students benefit from lessons and activities void of remediation.
2008/2009 MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS
A huge thanks to everyone - parents, teachers, students, and volunteers - who contributed their time and talents to make our Jog-a-Thon a great success again this year. Preliminary numbers show that we raised approx. $7,800. We could not have done this without the help and cooperation of all of you and, of course, our great runners -our students and teachers. A special thanks to our vibrant emcees, Nay Flinn and Evan Ray and our fantabulous DJ, Judy Villa!
Thanks to Canyon View students, staff, teachers, parents, friends, and local businesses we all had a great time at our 3rd annual Silent Auction and raised over $16,000 for our kids and our school. Great job, everybody, and THANKS!
Through these fundraisers and the annual Capital Campaign, the Foundation provided licenses for the ALEX computer directed math program for all 4th and 5th graders, and a subset of the 3rd grade. The Foundation was also able to provide funding for a reading and writing IMPACT teacher.
2007/2008 AT A GLANCE
As we look over our successes from the 2007/2008 school year, we are happy to report that through Coins for Cams, the Jog-a-thon, the Silent Auction, direct donations and other fundraisers, the Foundation raised over $34,000!.
With these donations the Foundation was able to purchase Doc-u-cams for the classrooms, helped fund an Impact Teacher, pay for the ALEKs Math program, and purchase a Promethean Board. Thank you to everyone who helped make last year a huge success!!!
